I, Tamiann L. Adams, am excited to announce that I am running for the Union County Council District five seat formerly held by the Late Tommy Hill. I believe it is my civic duty and calling as a 16-year active resident that I now take on the responsibility of becoming the voice of the people in my local community. I am willing to contribute my time and energy toward the wellbeing of the community in which we live, work, and play.
I currently serve the residents of Union County as a Realtor. Prior to starting my real estate business, I served as a contract manager of mortuary services working with the U.S. Military, the Department of Veteran Affairs, and the National Institute of Health. I have written and procured multi-million-dollar government contracts. I have a deep understanding of lean accounting processes, root cause and root cost analysis, and advance metric budgeting strategies. I will use these methods and strategies not only to maximize the efficiency of our budget, but also to procure funds from outside sources such as government grants and private philanthropy initiatives.
My yearning for community service and my interest in activism began at an early age. I began community service as an elementary age child through girl scouts and as a high-schooler became active in human and civil rights. I later became one of the Girl Scout Leaders serving Union County, I am currently serving my 13th year as a girl scout leader for Troop 391 alongside my now adult daughter Caitlyn Adams who is serving her 2nd year as the Co-Leader. I am currently and have served multiple terms as the Service Unit 630 Delegate representing Union County for The Girl Scout Mountains to Midlands Council.
Prior to Lockhart Schools closing I served as the School Improvement Chairmen. Among our many accomplishments, I helped create a program called Let’s Get Growing. A school garden was implemented, and I was able to work hands on with the children teaching them where food comes from. The following year I worked with teacher Ms. Leslie Owens in obtaining a $5,000 grant from Lowes to extend and build a reading garden. To this day, children still approach me and tell me how much they enjoyed the gardens.
In addition, I have also served as a volunteer disaster action team member for the American Red Cross serving Union County and surrounding areas since March of 2015 and since 2017, I have served as a Guardian Ad Litem representing the voice of the children through our court system.
In February of 2020 I formed the Concerned Citizens Group with a mission and focus centered around keeping local politicians accountable and to demand transparency. Currently, I am attempting to create a community watch group for district 5. Our mission here is to generate both short term and long-term solutions to the general safety and wellbeing of the community. We will be holding an interest meeting at the Charmed building located at 708 S. Duncan Bypass, on Saturday March 12, at 5:00 p.m.
I currently serve as Vice Chairmen of the Union County GOP while also serving as the Secretary of the Union County Women’s Republican Group.
I have developed an open line of communication with individuals ranging from house representatives to congressmen and senators who are eager to help build up our community.
As a Union County Civitan member I strongly support and stand behind the motto “builders of good citizenship” and it is my goal to provide my community with talents, abilities, and passion to help make our home a better place for our children and grandchildren, as well as all others who will come to love and care for Union County.
My primary focus is to enhance the quality of life for my constituents, by creating a unique and inclusive environment in district 5 that will set a new standard for our county. Education and youth development will be the primary focus of our movement. Together, we will create a community that fosters an environment conducive to raising exceptional young men and women, first and foremost.
I look forward to continuing my service to our community and I’m excited to speak personally with each and every one of you. Please Call or Email me if you would like to schedule a time that is convenient for me to speak with you.
